Peggy did her duty and went down to Rapture just as all the other ITF officers did, but Bucky and Steve seemed to take it upon themselves to put the whole weight of the city on their shoulders. That she could spend some time with each of them and do a bit to distract them from the city below was enough. She hated being down there, and hated seeing the effect it had on them.

She looked up from her plate at the question, the silver of his arm catching her eye before she met his gaze.

"He died on a mission," Peggy answered simply. She didn't feel the need to embellish his death, and suspected Bucky wouldn't either. He was a hero, yes, and the mission did end up giving them an important prisoner, but that hardly meant a thing in the grand scheme of things. He'd been Steve's closest friend, and Bucky's death tore him apart. There was no other way of putting it.

She set her fork down and picked up her glass of cider, taking a sip as she considered her next words. "The Sergeant was nearly blown out of a moving train. Captain Rogers was unable to save him in time before he fell."
