James Buchanan Barnes, also known as, Bucky, Winter Soldier, and most recently, Captain America, is among Marvel Comics' first characters. Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1941, Bucky first debuted in Captain America Comics #1 under Marvel's 1940s predecessor, Timely Comics. A few inches short of six feet, he doesn't cut the most imposing of figures, especially not with his boyish good looks, but there's an unmistakable air of danger about him all the same; he's not someone to cross lightly.

Bucky exits canon following his confrontation with Baron Zemo's son in Captain America #610, as he falls once more into the English Channel.
